The error, in what is known as the automatic REM (remittance) process, which the Post Office has admitted, is a possible variant of a known error which has featured heavily in an ongoing High Court trial where the Post Office’s Horizon accounting system is under the microscope. Thanks to NASA’s Kepler mission’s discovery of thousands of planets beyond our solar system,including some with key similarities to Earth, it’s now possible to not just imagine the science fiction of finding life on other worlds, but to one day scientifically prove life exists beyond our solar system. Discovery missions have achieved ground-breaking science, each taking a unique approach to space exploration, doing what’s never been done before, and driving new technology innovations that may also improve life on Earth. The Remote Agent also served as a proving ground for some of the automated planning software that my team brought to the tremendously succesful Mars Exploration Rovers, or MER (which flew after I left NASA). Since then we have re-offered the AI class through Udacity, the start-up company founded by my co-teacher Sebastian, and I have taught another class On The Design of Computer Programs. Education: Co-teacher of an online AI class for which 160,000 students registered and 23,000 completed the course. At Google, I founded the Course Builder project, an open source package for building online classes. An on-going experiment that has been called a groundbreaking change in academia, the course was featured on the front page of the New York Times and in my Ted Talk.
