Microsoft had the forethought to create Office 365 Education, a system that gives students with valid school email addresses (who are also of legal age to sign up online) free access to the entire, downloadable Microsoft Office Suite for the entire time they are students. The officers in a SWAT unit have undergone special training and have access to an arsenal of weaponry, armor and surveillance devices beyond standard-issue police gear. They could use gas to incapacitate him, but they don’t have access to it. Luckily, most police forces have a special unit with the equipment and training needed to resolve exactly this kind of situation: the SWAT team. If this kind of testing holds up to scientific scrutiny, it could be considered similar to a physical description reported by an eyewitness. However, the manner in which police use the information can cause controversy — Charlottesville, Va., police approached people matching a racial profile returned for a suspect and randomly asked them for voluntary swabs of DNA for testing. Recent advances in DNA testing have led some companies to claim they can determine the racial makeup of a person based solely on biological evidence left at a crime scene.

They don’t have surveillance equipment to see inside the apartment, which would give them crucial information about the assailant and the hostage. Advanced training is available for snipers, explosives experts, surveillance experts and hostage negotiators. A hostage situation – SWAT team snipers are trained to take out an attacker who is holding a hostage in the event that negotiations break down. They haven’t been trained to storm the apartment and incapacitate the attacker with minimal risk of injury to the hostage, the officers and the assailant. The officer calls for backup, but when the other officers arrive, they realize that their standard guns won’t shoot through the barricades. This training includes handguns, long guns and sub-machine guns. Some SWAT units travel to Gunsite, a world-renowned firearms training facility in Arizona. The Zero-G facility was originally designed and built during the space race era of the 1960s to support research and development of space flight components and fluid systems, in a weightless environment. Laptops combine all of the input and output capabilities and components of a desktop computer, including its display screen, keyboard, speakers, data storage, disc drives, and pointing devices (a touchpad or a trackpad), with a processor and operating system into a smaller device.

A high-risk person – If someone needs to be transported, and there is a high chance of an assassination attempt on his life, SWAT team armored vehicles can serve as protection. The virtual meetings I sat in on were charged with a sense of high purpose, as designers on the front lines used their skills to potentially save lives.

Transportation Safety Authority rules have since been changed to clarify that racial profiling at airport security checkpoints is not legal, and newer security systems are designed to be race-neutral, focusing instead on behavior patterns. While most police departments prefer to keep negotiators and SWAT teams separate, the LAPD SWAT team puts every member through negotiator training, and most of the team members are qualified to take on the lead negotiator role.
